Green Leader: Bridget Fahey
School: Ohio Wesleyan University
Project Objective: To encourage the members of the Alpha Rho chapter to become more environmentally friendly in thier day-to-day activities and decrease the ecological footprint of the AP chapter.
Project Activities or Steps: 1. Develop a comprehensive greening plan
2. Establish a "Greening Coordinator" position in the organization
3. Work with the chapter and leaders within the chapter to enact the plan which includes a wide array of parts from purchasing environmentally friendly cleaning supplies to paperless chapters to enhancing our recycling system at the house.
4. Re-evaluate what aspects of the comprehensive plan need to be edited and what aspects we have accomplished.
5. Once we feel this plan is a successful model, summit our plan to the PanHellenic organization and the Council of Fraternity Presidents to turn our entire Greek System on campus Green!
Project Resources: We will draw on the expertise of our members, help from the PinkGoesGreen community, and the knowledge of fellow students on campus to develop successful strategies.
Project Budget: Currently unknown. As discretionary funds and fundraising specifically for this cause becomes available the budget will grow. (As it stands, we are operating on a zero-budget plan).
Time Required: Ongoing process to enrich the lives of our members, help the planet, and improve our community.
How This Affects Your Community: As the Alpha Rho chapter becomes more and more environmentally sustainable, our successes can be passed on to the community. We hope to involve other campus organizations in Earth Day events and environmental awareness. By educating our members about environmentally friendly behaviors we can pass our knowledge onto our friends and fellow community members. Additionally, by reducing the ecological footprint of the AP chapter, we are able to reduce our impact on the environment and leave the world a better place than it was before.
Getting Others Involved: As this plan develops and continues, we want to involve other organizations in our community-outreach efforts. This would include partnering with service organizations and the campus Environment and Wildlife Club to educate the student body on how to be more eco-friendly. As this project is a long-term project it will morph and change as time goes on and will include different community members!
