Students today care more about the health of the planet than ever before. In fact, in the Princeton Review's 2017 College Hopes and Worries Survey Report, 64 percent of respondents said that a college's commitment to environmental issues and practices would play a factor in whether they decided to submit an application to a particular university. Across the country, college students love going green in 2017 for these top three reasons.

Building a Lifelong Career
College is a time to cultivate a knowledge base and acquire some experience for your future career, but it's also a time to follow your passions. For many current students, the two now go hand-in-hand when it comes to sustainability. A recent study found that the solar and wind industry is adding jobs at a rate 12 times faster than the rest of the U.S. economy. Plus, almost half of all large firms have hired new employees to help advance their company's sustainability plans within the past two years alone. Students want to work for modern eco-friendly companies who opt for solar energy and actually care about the environment. Having a potential future employer that is passionate about the world around them often allows college students to feel like their potential employers will also show an interest in their own well being and future life with the company. Given these statistics, it just makes sense to choose a sustainability-focused course of study, both professionally and personally for many college students.

Personal Health Benefits
Students today care about how the food they eat and the products they use impact their health far more than any other generation has. Generation Z'ers are hands down the most health-centric group of consumers, according to The Nielsen's Global Health and Wellness Survey which surveyed more than 30,000 consumers in over 60 countries. Whether it's pushing their university to offer more locally-sourced produce or opting for organic over genetically modified foods, students care about what they are putting into their bodies. For them, going green means taking care of themselves in addition to taking care of the planet.

More Diverse Than Ever Before
In many ways, college is a time to hone your personal expression while diving deeper into your own individual interests. Going green now means a multitude of things as diverse as the people who care about them. From working to change their university's recycling program to using solar-powered phone chargers to dorm room decor made from recycled, organic fabrics and dyes, students have the opportunity to incorporate their eco-friendly ideals into every facet of their lives.

For many college students, going green has become an integral component to their lives, helping to shape everything from day-to-day decisions to long-term goals. It's safe to say that this generation loves going green in 2017 and will shape future green careers and businesses for years to come!
